PRIME

Program title:

Programmed Initiatives for Monga Eradication (PRIME).

Project background:

PRIME a comprehensive approach to eradicate Monga. The poor households who face food insecurity and seasonal hunger-locally known as Monga.

Palli Karma Sahayak Foundation (PKSF) stared PRIME firstly from 2006 to offer financial services to the ultra-poor households in the five districts of this greater Rangpur region.

UDDIPAN started PRIME from 2007 as a partner of PKSF and now UDDIPAN implementing the PRIME to Patuakhali & Barguna districts of Northern area and Kurigram & Rangpur districts of Southern areas of Bangladesh through 28 branches.

Total 63,987 beneficiaries have been directly benefited by PRIME through UDDIPAN.

Target Beneficiaries:

The target beneficiaries of PRIME are ultra poor households which are monga-affected or facing monga-like situation.

These households may-

  • have monthly income = Tk. 1500 during monga period,
  • earn livelihood through selling their labor,
  • have less than 50 decimals of land,

Goal of PRIME:

To prevent the consequences of monga and monga-like situation.

Objectives of PRIME:

  • To generating income through wage & self-employment opportunities for the monga-affected people throughout the year.
  • To generating income through wage and self-employment opportunities for the monga-affected people for the specific monga seasons.

The major activities of the project are:

  • Formation of groups by the targeted people identified through survey.
  • Provide flexible micro-credit loan for IGA especially during disaster to make the target beneficiaries self-reliant.
  • Provide Emergency (consummation) Loan for target households.
  • Primary Health Care service for target households.
  • Impart Skill and Vocational training to the target people for generation of income.
  • Provide Technical services for implementation the IGA.
  • Creation of employment for the ultra poor during monga by developing rural infrastructure.
